Forest Service to host virtual job fair on December 15th – Red Bluff Daily News

The USDA Forest Service is hosting a second virtual job fair to recruit wildland firefighters for the Mendocino National Forest on-call wildfire program.

The job fair will take place on Wednesday, December 15 from 10 a.m. to noon. It will cover the program, training opportunities and the hiring process.

The Mendocino National Forest sponsors 10 on-call teams for fire suppression, forestry personnel, fuel projects and other tasks. Each team consists of 15 duty officers and three to five agency officers.

The forest will host hiring events in January and offer basic fire training in February and March. Crews will be paid during training. After training is complete, crews must pass an arduous pack test before being added to the roster for the upcoming fire year.

“Becoming a wildland firefighter is a great career opportunity for anyone who enjoys being outdoors, hiking, traveling and learning leadership skills,” said Shilo Springstead, Fire Training Officer.
